Guidelines on Personal Hygiene for Students taking part
in O’camps
Students should be reminded of the underlying
principles of personal hygiene measures:
Be hygienic: wash hands frequently; cover
cough and sneezes; keep the environment clean and
maintain good ventilation; avoid visiting crowded or
poorly-ventilated places.
Be responsible:
Take good care of yourself and maintain a
healthy lifestyle. Stay alert with your health
conditions whether you are fit to join mass
activities like Orientation Camps. If you have fever
or influenza-like symptoms prior to/during the camp,
do declare and alert activity organizer your body
condition when you check in Orientation Camps.
Bring for personal consumption, face masks and
alcohol-based hand cleaners. If influenza-like
symptoms develop, put on a mask and seek medical
attention as soon as possible; stay home, avoid
contact with others, do not go to work or school,
defer trips and do not take part in any orientation
activities.
Be vigilant: pay attention to advice and
guidelines issued by the Government with respect to
provision of medical services, travelling, border health
control, suspension of schools and public events.
Guidelines for Orientation Activity Organizers
Activity organizers should prepare a small stock of face
masks and alcohol hand rub for contingency use during
the activities. Organizers are also advised to take note
of the health conditions of participants during the
orientation camp. As far as budget is concerned,
organizers should have good planning and ensure
orientation activities are run on a self-financed basis.
Orientation organizers should first approach SU
Executive Committee if they have any difficulties in
budgeting additional resources.
Student
activity organizers should note the following reminders:
Organizers/Students with symptoms of
influenza-like illness (e.g. fever) should refrain
from attending activity/orientation camps. They
should seek medical attention.
Spacious outdoor/semi-outdoor settings are
preferred for mass activities. When running mass
activities in indoor settings, ensure the selected
indoor venues are well-ventilated.
Alcohol handrub should be provided at easily
accessible locations at activity site/orientation
camps, and organizers/students should be encouraged
to use such handrub frequently so as to enhance hand
hygiene.
Surgical masks should be available at the
activity site/orientation camps for staff/students
to wear if they or other members of their group fall
sick while attending event/orientation camps. Remind
your participants in advance to bring their own face
masks for personal consumption, if needed.
Extra vigilance on personal hygiene for
participants when designing games.
Students should be reminded to avoid sharing
personal items (e.g. towels, water bottles,
utensils), even when playing games.
Organizers should ensure adequate rest time and
hydration for participants undergoing intense
physical activities to avoid exhaustion.

Office for further support and advice.
