Peer Tutors for NON-LOCAL freshmen

BACKGROUND
Non-local (undergraduate students) freshmen will be assigned Graduate Mentors (research students) and Peer Tutors (undergraduate students) to facilitate their personal adjustment and integration into the university. The Peer Tutors will be paid, trained and will be working under the guidance and direction of  SAO staff .  The learning experience in the mentorship programme is both ways, benefiting both the tutors and mentees. 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Peer Tutors' engagement will be about 4-5 hours (including tutor's own preparation work and interaction hours with mentees) per week. 

Tasks include:

- to help freshmen to settle down and to adjust to life in HK
- to provide guidance and support to freshmen's academic studies
- to facilitate the running of study groups
- to provide insight on goal-setting and to share learning experience
- to help freshmen to work on self management tasks such as good time management, building friendship
- to arrange sharing/workshop on selected topic(s) like CV writing, interview skills and planning for summer etc

 

ELIGIBILITY

  • active, outgoing and helpful personality
  • undergraduate students with good academic performance and first-year-to-be or above.  (Local and non-local applicants are welcome!)
  • good academic performance and first-year-to-be or above
  • good English and preferably with good Putonghua
  • have experience in non-academic activities in PolyU
  • those familiar with the culture of non-local students, e.g. being buddies of non-local students, preferred
  • preferably with offshore internship or exchange experience
