An online learning tool for the development of generic competencies and employability


SPECIAL ePortfolio is a personalized portal for students to reflect, articulate and showcase their learning experience in all sorts of educational settings in pursuit of all-round development.

It is also an online learning tool to facilitate students' development of generic competencies in line with the PolyU Strategic Objectives 1.1.

SPECIAL stands for different domains of desirable generic competencies contributing to students' all-round development and successful future.

Management Tools for academics/mentors

SPECIAL ePortfolio is not only a personalized portal for students, but also serves as a tool to help academics/mentors to facilitate students' learning. The following features will be available in 2008/2009:-

  • Status checking of artefacts received from students
  • Viewing record of submission status from a particular class / group of students
  • Handy tools for grading and giving feedbacks
  • Record and reporting of grades and comments given
  • Record of artefacts from students
  • Authentication of artefacts from students
Note: "Artefact" here means any reflective writing, journal, evidence that a student wants to share with teacher/instructor/reviewer for feedback and grading (wherever appropriate).
