The Hong Kong Polytechnic University is committed to serving the community and cultivating studentsˇ¦ sense of social responsibility. Since 2004, the Student Affairs Office together with over 20 academic departments have been organising the Community Service Learning Programme (CSLP) to encourage students and staff to serve the community through the use of their professional knowledge and skills.

In 2006/07, some 1,000 students and staff partnered with some 50 NGOs / schools in serving 22,500 of those in need, in Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland.

Showcase on Community Service Learning Projects

The Showcase was the highlight of the Community Service Learning Programme. A total of 17 booths and displays of the community service projects were staged covering 4 themes namely Education/ IT, Health Care
and Education, Healthy Living and Social Integration. At the Showcase, free health screenings, booth activities, exhibitions and demonstrations were available for some 2,500 visitors, including more than 400 elderly people, disabled people and secondary school students coming from 15 agencies/schools.

Community Service Award Presentation Ceremony (16 November 2007)


PolyU has the Community Service Learning Awards in place to recognise students' outstanding performance in community service. This year, out of the 44 service projects competing for the Awards, 7 were awarded with Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards and 6 projects with Certificate of Excellence at the Presentation Ceremony. Prof. Poon Chung-kwong, President of PolyU, in his opening remarks said that CSLP was one of the important initiatives of the University to nurture students'

all-round development. Mrs. Betty Yuen, Managing Director of CLP Power Hong Kong Ltd, the Guest of Honour, encouraged PolyU students to continue serving the community.

CSLP Partners' Reception (16 November 2007)


Representatives of NGOs/ special schools/ secondary schools and various academic departments of the University were invited to join the Reception right after the Presentation Ceremony. The Reception provided a valuable opportunity for PolyU departments and outside agencies/schools to discuss the possibilities for future collaboration in community service.
