Application Procedures

1. Submission of Initial Application

Each applicant is allowed to make one initial application only to the Research Grants Council (RGC) through the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) Electronic System to obtain a HKPFS reference number by 1 December 2011 at Hong Kong Time 12:00 (GMT +8 hours). Preference on the institutions must be indicated if s/he decides to try for two institutions, instead of one. No change to the choice of institutions/preference is allowed after application submission.

2. Submission of Full Application to PolyU

Applicants will then submit a full application to no more than two institutions by quoting the reference number. Submission of full applications to PolyU should be made via the Web Application System on or before 5 December 2011 at Hong Kong Time 23:59 (GMT +8 hours) by following the steps below:

Click <Create New Applicant Account> to create your applicant account before completing the online application form.

Click <Make a New Application> and select "Application for Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme" as your application type to create your application.

Besides, applicants are also required to nominate two academic referees who can comment on their academic performances, and invite them to complete and return the designated form to the chosen institution(s) directly. For more information on pursuing a PhD degree in your chosen area at PolyU, please contact the Chair of the Research Committee of the academic department concerned.

The Hong Kong PhD Fellowship application is also regarded as a formal application for PhD admission to the chosen institutions. Applicants are therefore required to fully comply with the admission requirements of their selected institutions except the application deadline, which should strictly follow the stipulated deadline for the Fellowship scheme, i.e., 5 December 2011.
