Credit Transfer and Subject Exemption

Credit Transfer

Students may be given credits for recognised previous studies at the postgraduate level to partially fulfill the compulsory coursework requirement of a research programme. Credits to be transferred can be gained from within or outside of PolyU.

Subject Exemption

A student may be exempted from taking a compulsory subject if he/she has successfully completed a similar subject previously in another programme or already has the associated knowledge/skills via work experience, etc. Subject exemption is decided by the Departmental Research Committee but students can also apply for it. If a student is exempted from taking a compulsory subject, the credits associated with the exempted subject will not be counted towards the credit requirements. It will therefore be necessary for the student to take another subject, approved by the Chief Supervisor, in order to satisfy the credit requirements.
