Single switch wheelchair controller
|
|
|
This interface replaces the function of a standard
joy-stick. It has five scanning
lights, four for directional indication and one for use in the semi-latched
mode of operation.
In the non-latched mode, the user has to activate a switch and keep the
switch activated to travel in the selected direction.
In the semi-latched mode, the user activates his switch momentarily to
move the chair in the selected direction.
After a pre-set length of time, the CONTINUE indicator light up.
The wheelchair stops and scanning of
directional lights resumes if no action is taken by the user.
If the user activates his switch while the
CONTINUE indicator is on, the wheelchair continues to move in the direction
selected. This mode of operation is
particularly suitable for MD users because it is inherently safe and the user
is spared the effort of keeping his ability switch activated.
To help the user keep his eyes on the road, a single character Morse code
can be sounded when each light turns on.
Three wheelchair speeds can be selected with an external rotary
switch. Non-latched mode/semi-latched
mode, scan speed, Morse code speed and how long the wheelchair travels before
it requests a CONTINUE command (in the semi-latched mode) can be selected by
DIP switches accessible from the front panel.

Standup wheelchair |
|
|
The REC-M1 stand-up wheelchair is designed to allow
children with neuromuscular diseases to stand up on their own to prolong
their standing ability. This could help
the user to reduce contracture and improve circulation and digestion.
To cater for growth, the system can be
easily adjusted to fit children with different body height.
Also, this system is designed for easy
maneuvering in cramped space.

Manual foam copier
|
 |
The REC foam contour copier is designed to facilitate the
production of custom contour cushion in a quick and economical manner.
The configuration of the contour copier
consisted of a mobile base made with standard high density extruded aluminum
profiles and a three-axis tracing/carving unit constructed with a manual
driving ball screw unit and two roller guided sliding units.
The tracer and the carving unit were
mounted at each end of the longitudinal sliding element.
The maximum stroke for the ball screw unit
which controls the vertical movement of the tracing/carving unit is 125mm
with 5mm increment. The longitudinal
and cross movement for the tracing/carving unit is 523.5x523.5 mm.
This would allow carving of a 508x508x127
(LxWxH) mm foam block. The carver is
constructed with a standard trimmer (30,000 rpm) using a 1 inch carbide
tipped trimmer bit with half round grooving as the carving head.
Also the trimmer was modified to allow a
cutting depth up to 127 mm. The
tracer was constructed with a 25.4 mm diameter plastic ball knob fitted to
allow rotation along its vertical axis.
The cutting speed is set at 16,000 rpm and can be adjusted with a
voltage controller. The on/off
control of the carver is through a foot switch.
In addition, specially designed
mounting fixtures are made available to accommodate various commercial bead
bag systems.
