Rebuilding mental health from the ground up

"One of the unique characteristics of PolyU is the trans-disciplinary approach we have taken."

In this video, Dr Timothy Sim, Associate Professor of the Department of Applied Social Sciences, discusses the role he played leading a team of PolyU faculty and students in Sichuan, China to provide mental health services following the devastating 2008 Wenchuan earthquake in which close to 70,000 people died. “One of the unique characteristics of PolyU,” he says, “is the trans-disciplinary approach we have taken.” Bringing together a diverse team of specialists, Dr Sim came up with a number of non-traditional support programmes based on the local culture. As a result of their work, the resilient people of Wenchuan are now back on the road to recovery.
