Abstract:

Whether consciously or unconsciously, most PolyU teachers have been practising criterion-referenced approaches to assessing their students' work, at least since the inception of OBE in PolyU in 2004, if not earlier.  To gain more understanding about how CRA is implemented in PolyU, and identify areas in which support is needed to facilitate university-wide adoption, a study was undertaken last year.  The study used a series of focus group interviews and two open forums, involving frontline teachers, programme leaders, and members of LTC (Learning and Teaching Committee) or DLTCs (Departmental Learning and Teaching Committees) to identify stakeholders' issues and concerns, as well as possible solutions.

In this workshop, participants will be given the opportunity to hear about the issues and concerns that were identified, and to reflect on whether they are also experiencing the same in their own student assessment.  Some possible solutions will be presented to stimulate discussion and sharing among participants with a view to devising feasible solutions to prepare colleagues for implementing CRA in the new academic year.
