About the Working Group on Outcome-Based Education
The Working Group on Outcome-Based Education (WGOBE) was established in February 2007. Its establishment has demonstrated the University's commitment to re-orienting its curriculum to the Outcome-Based Education (OBE). Its major task is to advise the University on polices in support of the implementation of OBE, and to drive, oversee, and facilitate OBE development across the University. The responsibilities of the Working Group are detailed in its Terms of Reference.
The Working Group comprises the Faculty/School OBE Champions and representatives from the two major academic support units, SAO and EDC. The OBE Champions are senior academics appointed to promote OBE in their respective Faculties/Schools and to represent the voice of frontline teachers in this important University-wide endeavour. Two of these Champions have also been nominated to represent PolyU in UGC's Inter-institutional Task Force on promoting OBE in Hong Kong universities. They will play a crucial role of serving as a bridge between the Task Force and the Working Group.
The University has set aside a substantial ear-marked fund to support the development of OBE in the Faculties and Departments. The Working Group will be responsible for mapping out a disbursement plan, allocating the fund, and monitoring the quality of funded projects.
This Website is hosted by the Working Group with an aim of providing academic staff with up-to-date information about the implementation of OBE in the University. In addition, the Working Group will organize activities at appropriate times to support Faculties, Departments and individual teachers to develop and implement OBE in their programmes or subjects.
I hope you will find this Website useful and look forward to seeing you in activities supported by the Working Group in the future.
