Introduction
  

With more than 60 full-time academic staff, the Department of Management and Marketing (MM) is one of the largest departments in the University. It has expertise in general and strategic management, entrepreneurship, organizational behaviour, human resource management, international business and marketing. Staff are actively engaged in research and consultancy, in Hong Kong, the Chinese Mainland and internationally.
 
The Department's teaching philosophy reflects a commitment to excellence and to innovation in learning and teaching. The Department employs a range of experiential, problem-based, and case-based learning techniques. The aim is to develop not only business and management knowledge, but also interpersonal skills and teamwork.

Postgraduate-Research


The Department is a major contributor to the postgraduate programmes hosted by the Faculty of Business. MM colleagues teach in the Doctor of Business Administration (DBA), Master of Business Administration (MBA), MSc in Management, and MSc in Marketing Management programmes. MM academics also supervise research students enrolled for MPhil and PhD degrees and carry out applied research in management and marketing. 


Consultancy and Professional Service


Members of the Department are involved in consultancy and management development work with businesses in Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland. Recent projects have included: a brand audit for a jewellery retailer; a manpower and salary survey for a professional association; an employee satisfaction survey for a construction company, a study on social enterprise and anti-poverty in the case of work-integrated services; a drug store industry analysis; and an analysis of public opinion on the Tamar Development Project. 
 
MM staff are active as committee members and advisors to professional associations, including the Hong Kong Institute of Human Resource Management, the Hong Kong Institute of Marketing, and the Chartered Institute of Marketing. They also act as advisors and examiners to educational and training institutes.
