Zoe Lau (Hong Kong)
2011 Graduate of BBA (Hons) in Marketing

The three-year study in the Marketing Programme is unforgettable and fruitful. We learned marketing concepts and theories during lectures and tutorials. But studying in class is just the beginning of the journey. I am grateful that PolyU had given me a lot of chances to turn concepts into down to earth knowledge and skills. In the 1st semester of Year 2, I took part in an exchange programme to the UK. This programme opened my eyes to the international world. It was a great change to practice soft skills, such as interpersonal relationship and critical thinking. The internship programme in Mainland China is another great opportunity for me to utilize the knowledge and skills gained from the marketing study. The mix of in-class learning and real life practice make my study in the Marketing Programme a rewarding experience.

Cheah Wen Sing (Malaysia)
2010 Graduate of BBA (Hons) in Marketing

People usually perceive that classes in Hong Kong are conducted in Cantonese and that the graduates from Hong Kong are usually mediocre. I found that this was not the case when I studied for my BBA (Marketing) in PolyU. The university granted me a full scholarship and supported me when I took up an overseas internship in a marketing communications company in New York. Through this internship, I gained a better understanding of the cultural differences between Western and Asian business operations. This experience further equipped me to become a perspicacious person in making decisions. I also learned how to integrate theories into the actual workplace. My experience in Hong Kong and the USA helped to increase my international exposure. I am very grateful to my fellow classmates and lecturers who had always been very supportive to me during my student days in Hong Kong. I am very proud to say that I am a Marketing graduate from PolyU. (November 2010)

Hugo Mak (Hong Kong)
2010 Graduate of Double Degree Programme
BBA (Hons) in Marketing & BA (Hons) in Design (Advertising)

In this unique, four-year double degree programme, I have received training on a broad range of skills — from formulating strategy to making decisions on small details like the typography of a copy-line. I have equipped myself with business knowledge and design thinking. This appreciably helps me to develop my marketing career in one of the major property developers in Hong Kong. PolyU’s Marketing has also provided me with various opportunities to increase my exposure and widened my vision through overseas exchange study, internships, company visits, inter-university competitions, and marketing conferences. There are always different ways to learn and apply in PolyU. My student life here has been very fruitful and exciting. (November, 2010)

Kino Law (Hong Kong)
2010 Graduate, BBA (Hons) in Marketing

After graduating with a BBA (Hons) in Marketing from PolyU, I am now studying for my MA in International Political Economy at the University of Warwick. I believe that my education and training in PolyU have greatly strengthened my confidence and allowed me to develop my own skills. I did not know how much I have gained until I arrived in the UK! PolyU’s BBA in Marketing has given me a lifetime-benefit of soft skills. If you want strict academic knowledge, you can just read a book. It is that simple. But, the Marketing programme has trained my critical thinking, presentation skills, business sense and analysis from different perspectives. These are skills that will stay with me all my life and these are the skills that are precious for a student’s development. (November, 2010)

Eva Yeung (Hong Kong)
Year 3 student, BBA (Hons) in Marketing

Having studied Marketing for almost 3 years, I have gained professional knowledge and also developed an inquiring mind and interest in evaluating advertisements and promotion events in daily life! In Year 2, I joined an Overseas Student Exchange Program and spent a semester in Germany. Life being the only Asian girl in my group of European friends for 5 months was incredible. I learnt how to appreciate and relate to people of different cultures. This provided me a valuable opportunity to understand my strengths and weaknesses, enabling me to become a more mature and open-minded person. I now have many good friends around the world! PolyU is like a window to the world for you to explore and venture out, a platform to the society for you to build on and work out your career path! (November, 2010)

From PolyU, I gained not only the knowledge but also the chances to practice marketing skills. I had received two precious internship opportunities in New York and Beijing. I had opportunity to contribute my ideas to the managers and I am so thankful to receive their valuable comments. The international exposures I received really enhanced my abilities in communications and job performance in the workplace. The skills I learnt from the programme become the lifelong talents that can be applied to my daily work. I really appreciate that I was chosen to be a PolyU Marketing student!
