PolyU NetID

The PolyU NetID (Network Identity) is your key to all the central IT facilities on campus including e-mail, University Portal, Academic Unix Cluster, and other network facilities and services. It is your unique personal identifier known by the University's computer systems which will enable you to apply a single username and password pair, named as PolyU Network Identity (NetID) and Network Password (NetPassword) respectively, to access the following facilities and services:

  • Campus E-mail System and PolyU WebMail
  • GroupWise Messaging System (staff only)
  • University Portal
  • Wireless LAN and Fixed Network Outlets
  • HelpCentre Online Tracking Service (HOTS)
  • Academic Unix Cluster, myStore, myWeb & mySurvey
  • iFolder (staff only)
  • Blackboard (WebCT) e-Learning Platform

Eligible Users and Account Application

Students

Please refer to the 'FAQs on managing NetIDs and accounts for students' to check if you are an eligible user. If so, you can create your NetID and the associated accounts (including Campus E-mail) and select your password (called NetPassword) via the 'Student NetID Creation' facility of the 'NetID Management System' the day after you have completed your registration enrolment and received your student ID card. The facility can be accessed by clicking the 'New Student' button on the NetID Management System Login Page at http://www.polyu.edu.hk/netid.

Staff

Please refer to the 'FAQs on managing NetIDs and accounts for staff' to check if you are an eligible user. If so, you can create your NetID and the associated accounts (including Campus E-mail) and select your password (called NetPassword) via the 'Staff NetID Creation' facility of the 'NetID Management System' on your first day of duty. The facility can be accessed by clicking the 'New Staff' button on the NetID Management System Login Page at http://www.polyu.edu.hk/netid.

Please note that applications from part-time staff will be forwarded to the departmental Computer Liaison Officers (CLOs) for endorsement before the NetIDs and associated accounts can be created.

Create Your NetID

All students are provided with a NetID to access the central IT facilities and services. New students can create your NetID via the ¡§Student NetID Creation¡¨ facility of the NetID Management System the next day after you have completed the registration procedures and received your student ID card.

All staff can also apply for a NetID for accessing the central IT facilities and services. New staff can create your NetID via the "Staff NetID Creation" facility of the NetID Management System on your first day of duty after you have received your PolyU staff ID card from the Human Resources Office.

Please note that you must accept the PolyU Acceptable User Policy (AUP) for IT Facilities and Services and the PolyU Computer Systems Security Policy before you can activate your NetID. Therefore, please read the policies carefully before activating your NetID.

 

NetID Management System

The NetID Management System provides web-based facilities for you to manage your NetID, NetPassword and the associated accounts and services. It can be accessed by clicking the "NetID Management" button on the University Portal login page. Via the NetID Management System, you can:

  • Create your PolyU NetID
  • Re-set your NetPassword (in case you have forgotten it)
  • View your central IT account profile (e.g. IT services available to you, e-mail account profile etc.)
  • Change your NetPassword
  • Activate / Revoke some optional IT services
  • Choose your preferred name / address for e-mail a ccounts

 

Changing NetPassword

For security reason, you are strongly advised to change your NetPassword via the NetID Management System regularly, preferably once every quarter. The System will send you a reminder e-mail if you have not changed your NetPassword for more than 6 months. Click here for the procedures of changing your NetPassword.
