Introduction
With the advent of Internet tools, a large number of emails that we receive each day are not exactly what we may wish or intend to receive. It is estimated that over 40% of the emails that reach PolyU are Junk Mails (Spams), and the percentage will continue to rise. The Campus E-mail System has a built-in anti-spam engine in each of its incoming SMTP servers to help you tackle email spamming. It relieves you from the trouble of distinguishing useful emails from the ever-increasing junk mails in your Inbox.
The anti-spam engine scans each incoming email delivered by its hosting SMTP server and identifies and labels suspected spams. As the tolerance to spam varies vastly among individuals and an email that is regarded as a spam by one may not necessarily be so objectionable to another, the suspected spams will not be deleted, but rather routed to the quarantine in the SMTP servers. You can use the spam control features of the anti-spam engine to manage the quarantined messages.
What you should do?
You will receive a daily email digest from 'postmaster@polyu.edu.hk' which contains a list of messages originally addressed to your Campus E-mail/WebMail account, but have been eventually routed to the quarantine in the past 24 hours(if any). You can click the ('Manage Spam') button on the WebMail menu bar to access the 'WebMail Quarantine Hub' to manage the quarantined messages, White List ('Approved Senders') and Black List ('Blocked Senders').
-
The anti-spam engine WILL NOT DELETE any email being considered as Junk Mail.
-
Old personal "White List" and "Black List" in WebMail will not be effective from 1 May 2009. The corresponding new "Approved Senders" and "Blocked Senders" lists have to be managed from 'WebMail Quarantine Hub'.
-
Staff users who have set forwarding address of their Campus E-mail accounts to their GroupWise accounts should access the 'WebMail Quarantine Hub' to manage their quarantined messages.
