Connecting to the Campus Network using the Network Outlets in Library, General Teaching Rooms and Lecture Theatres for Windows Vista
Please configure your notebook according to the following procedure. Once you have configured your machine, it will be automatically authenticated and connected to the campus network whenever you plug it into the network outlet in library, a general teaching room or a lecture theatre.
Configuration Procedure
[1] Click Start and select Run
[2] Select Classic View in Control Panel Home, and click Administrative Tools
[3] Click Services
[4] Select Wired Auto Config and click Start the service to enable the 802.1x authentication.
[5] Close the Services browser, select Classic View in Control Panel Home, and click Network and Sharing Center.
[6] Right-click Local Area Connection and then select properties
[7] Click the Authentication tab
[8] Check Enable IEEE 802.1x authentication for this network
[9] Select Protected EAP (PEAP) in EAP type
[10] Check Cache user information for subsequent connections to this network
[11] Click Settings...
[12] Check Connect to these servers: and type span.polyu.edu.hk
[13] SelectVeriSign Class 3 Public Certfication Authority -G5
[14] Un-check Do no prompt user to authorize new servers or trusted certification authorities
[15] Select Secured password (EAP-MSCHAP v2) in the Select Authentication Method: field
[16] Click Configure...
[17] Un-check Automatically use my Windows logon name and password (and domain if any)
[18] Click OK three times
Connection Procedure
Connect your machine with a network cable to the Network Outlet in the general teaching room or lecture theatre. You will see the icon in the system tray.
[1] Type your NetID at User name
[2] Type your NetPassword at Password
[3] Leave the Logon domain: blank
[4] Click OK
You have completed the setup procedure. Please use a web browser to access the Internet for testing.
