Connecting to eduroam using Win XP machines

Please follow the procedure below to configure your notebook computer to connect to eduroam. Once you have configured your notebook computer, it will be automatically authenticated and connected to the WLAN whenever your computer is brought in range of the WLAN covered areas.

 


1. WPA2 Configuration

[1] Click Start and select Run


[2] Double click Network Connections


[3] Right-click Wireless Network Connection, select Properties

Click the Wireless Networks tab
[1] Check Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings
[2] Click Add

Click the Association tab
[1] Type in eduroam in the Network name (SSID) field
[2] Select WPA2 in the Network Authentication field
[3] Select AES in the Data encryption field

Click the Authentication tab
[1] Select Protected EAP (PEAP) in EAP type field
[2] Un-check Authenticate as computer when computer information is available and
     Authenticate as guest when user or computer information is unavailable
[3] Click Properties

[1] Check Validate server certificate
[2] Check Connect to these servers and type span.polyu.edu.hk in the field
[3] Check VeriSign Class 3 Public Certfication Authority -G5
[4] Un-check Do no prompt user to authorize new servers or trusted certification authorities.
[5] Select Secured password (EAP-MSCHAP v2) in the 'Select Authentication Method: field
[6] Click Configure...

[1] Un-check Automatically use my Windows logon name and password (and domain if any)
[2] Click OK two times to close the two popup windows

Click the Connection tab
[1] Check Connect when this network is in range
[2] Click OK

(1.6) If there are more than one SSID configured, it is recommended to set the order of 'Preferred networks' as shown below. To change the order :
[1] Select one of the SSID.
[2] Click Move up or Move down to change the order.
[3] Repeat steps [1] and [2] until the order is as shown. Then, click OK to close the popup windows.

(1.7) When your computer is in range of the WPA network, you will see the icon in the system tray. Click on it.

[1] Type in your NetID@polyu.edu.hk in the field User name
[2] Type in your NetPassword in the field Password
[3] Leave the Logon domain: blank.
[4] Click OK two times to close the two popup windows.

(3.8) You have completed the setup procedure. Please use a web browser to access the Internet for testing
