Connecting to Universities via Y5ZONE using Win Vista machines

(1) Add a WPA2 Profile

[1] Click on Start, then click Control Panel


[2] Select Classic View in Control Panel Home, and click Network and Sharing Center.

In Networks and Sharing Center,
[1] Under the Tasks of right-hand side menu, click Manage wireless networks.


[2] Click Add.

[3] Choose Manually create a network profile


In Manage wireless networks,
[1] Type Universities via Y5ZONE.
[2] Select WPA2-Enterprise from the Security type drop-down menu.
[3] Select AES from Encryption type drop-down menu.
[4] Un-check Start this connection automatically and then Click Next.


In the Manually connected to a wireless network window, Select Change connection settings.

(2) Set up the Authentication profile

In the Secruity tab,
[1] Select Protected EAP (PEAP) from the Choose a network authentication method drop-down menu.
[2] Un-check Cache user information for subsequent connections to this network (Note: Check this buttom for personal use).
[3] Click Settings.

In the Protected EAP Properties window,
[1] Check connect to these servers and type ‘span.polyu.edu.hk
[2] Check VeriSign Class 3 Public Certfication Authority -G5
[3] Un-check Do not prompt user to authorize new servers or trusted certification authorities.
[4] Select Secured password (EAP-MSCHAP V2) from Select Authentication Method drop down menu.
[5] Click Configure.

In the EAP MSCHAPv2 Properties window,
- Un-check Automatically use my Windows logon name and password (and domain if any).
- Click OK three times to close the popup windows.
- Click Close.

Back to Window Vista,
- Click Windows Start and choose Connect To.
- Select and Click Universities via Y5ZONE from Wireless Network Connection.
- Click Connect.



In the Enter Credentials window,
[1] Type in NetID@polyu.edu.hk in the field User name
[2] Type in your NetPassword in the field Password
[3] Leave the Logon domain blank.
[4] Click OK two times to close the two popup windows.


You have completed the setup procedure. Please use a web browser to access the Internet for testing
