Professor Kaye Chon, Professor Haiyan Song and Mr Ben Jiang visited Chengdu, Sichuan Province, at the invitation of Mr Zhang Gu, Director of Sichuan Provincial Tourism Administration. The SHTM delegates delivered tourism-related lectures at a seminar held on 5-8 May 2008 to an audience comprised of directors of local tourism bureaus, general managers of hotels and travel agents, and teaching staff and researchers of tourism institutions.
Dr David Jones, Dr Hanqin Zhang and Mr Ben Jiang visited Sichuan on 30 June-4 July 2008 to review with Sichuan Tourism Administration the tourism recovery and reconstruction plan of the earthquake stricken areas of the province.
The staff, research students, families and friends of the SHTM donated over HK$60,000 to help the victims of the Sichuan earthquake tragedy. The funds have been deposited in PolyU's disaster relief account, the balance of which will be given to the Hong Kong Red Cross.
