Professor Bob McKercher was invited to teach Tourism Strategy as a visiting professor at Chung Hua University in Taiwan on 14-19 January 2008.

SHTM organised a one-day study trip to Macau on 19 January 2008 to familiarise staff members with the latest developments in hotel, casino, conference and exhibition facilities in the city. The study trip covered three of the major new properties: Wynn Macau, The Venetian Macao and MGM Grand Paradise.

Dr Henry Tsai led his class of Casino and Gaming Management to a field trip to the Hong Kong Jockey Club on 19 February 2008. Students met the Club’s Head of Betting Services (Off-course), Mr Peter Tsang.

Dr Alan Wong led a three-day field trip to the Pearl River Delta on 8-10 March 2008 covering Shenzhen, Guangzhou and Zhuhai. The group visited the Interlaken OCT Hotel Shenzhen and the surrounding Interlaken Town area. Cultural exchange activities were also arranged with students from Sun Yat-sen University.

Mr Paul Penfold arranged the first-ever virtual field trips for students to visit hotels and resorts developed by a Turkish hotel group in the second week of March 2008. Students visited online replicas of the hotels and were met by the Group Marketing Director, who introduced them to the hotel group in real time. The students were able to ask questions and were taken on a virtual tour of hotel facilities.
