SHTM Students Geared Up for the Olympic Games

More than 110 students are placed with Beijing Olympics organisations in July and August 2008, benefiting from once in a lifetime opportunity to learn on the job at the world's premiere multi-sport event.

Around 100 students are placed in Beijing with the Olympic Business District Investment Company from early July until the end of the Games in late August. The programme not only provides students with internship opportunities, but also the unique experience of involvement in the first Olympic Games held in China. Students are expected to work in the Olympic Village alongside international journalists, sportsmen and tourists from around the world. They will receive 2 weeks of training upon arrival in Beijing, and will then be assigned to work as receptionists, call centre operators, hotel assistants, tour guide assistants and interpreters.

In Hong Kong, 13 students are placed with the Equestrian Events (Hong Kong) of the Games of the XXIX Olympiad Company, undertaking such tasks as supporting the catering team, the accommodation team, spectator services and ticketing for the equestrian events held in Sha Tin.

Early start allows the students to receive hands on training and preparation before providing visitor support services. For everyone involved, it is an intense but invaluable learning experience.
