David Airey

David was in Australia and New Zealand during February where he took part in the annual conference of the Council for Australasian Universities Tourism and Hospitality Education (CAUTHE) which this year was in Christchurch organized by Lincoln University. He was then at the University of Queensland continuing his work as W James Whyte Visiting Research Fellow at the University of Queensland in Brisbane.

 


Dimitrios Buhalis

Dimitrios was awarded the  ‘20 Year ENTER Paper Contribution Award’. 
Dimitrios is organising www.enter2014.org etourism conference in Dublin in January 2014.

 


Erik Cohen

Erik’s article, "Globalization, global crises and tourism" in the Tourism Recreation Research was chosen as Article of the Year for 2012 (jointly with another article).
Erik has submitted the item, “Refereeing in the Age of Scientific Commoditization”, to the Fellows for discussion.

David Edgell

David and Jason R. Swanson have produced the second edition of their book Tourism Policy and Planning. This book, very much expanded from the first edition (including three new chapters and several international case studies, and much more), offers a comprehensive look into the tourism policy process and how policies link to the strategic planning function as well as influence planning at the local, national and international levels. Brian King

Brian recently presented a plenary address Tourism Trends in Asia-Pacific: New Trends and Prospects at the International Conference on Tourism Development hosted by University Sains Malaysia in Penang on 4/5 Feb 2013.

He also presented a plenary address on Accreditation - international Issues, Trends & Future Directions at Emirates Academy in Dubai on 18th to 20th November 2012 at a conference Changing Times in Tourism and Hospitality Education organised by the Tourism and Hospitality Education International Centre of Excellence (THE-ICE). At the conference he was made a Fellow of THE-ICE.

At the first CAUTHE conference "Tourism and Global Change" to be held outside Australia (at Lincoln University in Christchurch, New Zealand) he participated in the “Great debate”for the Rest of the World team against Australasia. The proposition was "slow and local is better than fast and global". The proposition (Australasia) was upheld, aided by a strongly partisan Kiwi audience!  PhD student Serli Wijaya won the CAUTHE best paper award for “International Visitor Encounters with Local food: A Preliminary Conceptual framework”.

Gareth Shaw

Gareth has been invited onto the ESRC Sift Panel for the Future Leaders Scheme.  In addition, he has been awarded a PhD Studentship with Tim Taylor (ECEHH, Truro) by the European Regional Development Fund for research on Disability and the Blue Gym in Cornwall.  He is also co-applicant on a research project led by Stewart Barr (Geography) on sustainable household behaviour in the UK and France funded by Coca-cola Enterprises (£146,000).  He has been appointed Chair of the EU COST Action on Tourism and Wellbeing (600,000 euro 2012-2016).
