Wallace is the Managing Director of Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre
(Management) Ltd. (HML). HML is the company responsible for the management and
operation of the 250,000 square metre HKCEC. The Centre hosted near 2,000 events
for the year ending 30 June 2003 including some of Asia’s largest exhibitions
plus a variety of international meetings, major banquets, ceremonies and entertainment
events.
Mr. Wallace is an established and proven veteran with over 40 years in the public
assembly facility industry. He has been a Certified Facility Executive (CFE)
since 1978 and is known internationally for his management, administrative,
operations, public-relations, planning and consulting expertise. He has served
in the U.S. as Assistant Manager of the Greenville Memorial Auditorium in South
Carolina, Director of the Von Braun Center in Alabama, President of the Superdome
in Louisiana, and President & CEO of Leisure Management International which
provided private management of arenas, convention and exhibition centers in
eight U.S. cities during his tenure. He has consulted on the development and
operational aspects of numerous facilities in the U.S., Canada, Europe and Asia.
Mr. Wallace serves as a board member of UFI, the Global Association of the Exhibition
Industry. He a past Chairman of the World Council for Venue Management (WCVM),
a past Chairman of the Asia Pacific Exhibition and Convention Council (APECC)
and a past President of the International Association of Assembly Managers (IAAM),
the largest international organisation for executives of convention, exhibition,
arena and other public assembly facilities. He is the recipient of the IAAM’s
most distinguished Charles A. McElravy Award for extraordinary contributions
to the IAAM and to the profession of public assembly facility management. He
served on the Association’s Board of Trustees for eight (8) years, and
was an IAAM senior officer for four (4) years. He has served on and chaired
numerous IAAM committees serving currently on its Nominating Committee, International
Task Force and International Safety and Task Force. He is also a member of the
Venue Management Association (VMA) consisting of venue executives in the Asia-Pacific
and has served on its board of Councilors and its executive committee. He is
serving as an instructor at the VMA’s Public Venue Management School for
the ninth year.
Mr. Wallace was born in Greenville, SC (USA) in 1947. He graduated in 1968 with
a degree in Mathematics and minors in Business Administration and Science. He
has completed numerous professional and executive development programs with
emphasis on public assembly facility management. He has completed a Senior Executive
Symposium at Cornell University sponsored by the IAAM in 1999 and an executive
program on global business in 1995 conducted by the Harvard Business School
Association of Hong Kong. He serves as Chairman of the Hong Kong Polytechnic
University Advisory Committee on Hotel and Tourism Management and has served
as an Adjunct and Honorary Faculty Member of School of Hotel and Tourism Management
at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. He currently serves as Managing Director
of Hong Kong Ticketing, and as Director of five other company boards in Hong
Kong.
