Steve Shellum has been a journalist for 30 years, having started his career in 1973 with Northcliffe Newspapers in the UK. Having worked on several daily papers in England for 11 years, he moved to Hong Kong in 1984 and has been there ever since. He has edited a number of international magazines, including Business Traveller Asia Pacific, TravelNews Asia, Asia Travel Trade and Asian Hotelier. Steve set up HOTEL Asia Pacific in January 2000 and the Chinese-language HOTEL China in June 2001.

He has won a number of awards for editorial excellence, including the 2003 PATA Gold Award for a cover story that examined hotel security in the wake of the Bali bombings. In 2002, HOTEL Asia Pacific was named the best trade magazine in Asia by the prestigious Society of Publishers in Asia (SOPA).

Steve is a regular speaker at various industry conferences, and organised two highly successful hotel security workshops following the Bali bombings. He is also regularly quoted as a hotel industry analyst by such media as Forbes, the Asian Wall Street Journal and CNN.
