Storage Services for Non-local Students

1. Objective & Eligible Users 

As a value-added service, a self-serviced storage service is commissioned, on a first-come-first-served basis, exclusively for non-local students, who will continue their study in PolyU after the period of storage. 

2. Storage Boxes (see picture below) 

i. Size: 643mm (l) x 430mm (w) x 325mm (h)
ii. Maximum weight of content in each box : 25 kg (55 lbs)
iii. Maximum No. of Boxes on-loan for each SSS user: 5
iv. Unit replacement cost for loss of or damages to a storage box: HK$200
v. Students who rent 3 or above storage boxes can store one item at a weight of not exceeding 25 kg, for holding some bulky things with irregular shape/size which cannot be contained by our standard storage box. The storage cost of this item is equal to a storage box.

3. Storage Period & Cost

i. Storage Period:  from two weeks before the commencement of the semester, to two weeks after the end of the semester (for summer 2011, it will be 4 May - 12 Sep. 2011)
ii. Storage cost: HK$100 per semester for each box or the item provided by the user
iii. Self-serviced: Store Services users should transport boxes themselves

4. Storeroom

i. Venue:  1/F Function Room
ii. Opening Hours:  10:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m.
iii. Hotline: 0099 (via Hall Security Control)

5. Penalty Charge for late collection 

For any boxes unclaimed beyond storage period, a daily rate of $10 per box will be charged automatically up to a maximum of 30 days. After that, the content in the unclaimed boxes will be disposed at the user’s own risk.

6.     Charge for Re-opening the Storage Box  

Any user requesting for opening the Box should approach Hall Reception to pay an administration charge of HK$20 and show the receipt at Storeroom for box opening.  

7.     Exception Clauses of Storage Services 

i. As the Storeroom is non-air-conditioned and guarded with lower level of security control, residents are highly advised to store non-valuables and damp-proof items in the storage box only and the Hall will NOT be liable for any damage to or loss of content in the storage box out of the negligence of the user.
ii. In case of fire or any negligence caused other than the user, the maximum liability the hall will bear is up to HK$500 per box only.

8.     Procedures for using Storage Services 

i.

Before check-out

  • Pay the storage fee and sign an Undertaking Form at Hall Reception;
  • Go to the Storeroom to collect the boxes and return the packed boxes in one lot, on the following day the latest during opening hours;
  • A Store Record Slip will be produced for the users’ record;
  • Place the boxes onto the assigned location in the storeroom yourself (click to see correct weight lifting posture) 
ii.

After check-in

  • Show the Store Record Slip at Summer Storeroom for collection of the boxes;
  • Return the vacant boxes to the Storeroom on the following day the latest, or else the boxes will be assumed to be lost and the user will be charged $200 per box for replacement.

9. Others 

Vacuum-compressed bags (picture below) that are available in department stores can be used to minimize volume of bedding. A vacuum machine will be borrowed from FMO Office free of charge.
