Living & Learning Communities
Living & Learning Communities (LLC) aim to link students with shared interests, common academic disciplines or goals to create mutually supportive networks and learning opportunities. Students in the communities develop good friendship and make contributions to facilitate each others’ learning under the selected theme. They are encouraged to make new initiatives and design their learning programs/activities in a flexible and enjoyable way.
Students who are interested to form a LLC with a theme related to any cultural or career interest, academic subject, social and community issues, etc, and would like to call for students with the same interest/goal, are welcome to contact the Hall Management Section sahall@polyu.edu.hk for details.

Exploring Hong Kong Community
This community is formed by a group of students who are interested in exploring Hong Kong and local culture. They organise outings and visits to explore Hong Kong through various perspectives, with the following objectives:
- To encourage students’ understanding of the unique culture, tradition, history and heritage of
Hong Kong
- To explore the natural beauty and eco-environment of Hong Kong as well as arouse students’
awareness for environmental protection
- To organize programmes/visits to facilitate students’ appreciation of Hong Kong from different
perspectives

Green Green Hall Community (GGHC)
Established in March 2009, the Green Green Hall Community aims to promote environmental awareness, green and ecologically balanced lifestyle among hall residents. In support of the Earth Hour 2009, a group of students with interest in green living and environmental protection were called upon to help coordinate the event. Since then, the Community had organised various activities in the Student Halls such as recycling campaigns, movie shows, workshop, etc.
Benefits of the programme include:
- Learn more about environmental issues
- Work with students with the same vision to organise activities to promote the awareness of
environmental conservation in hall, even on campus
- Contribute to a better environment by arousing students' awareness of environmental protection,
climate change and energy conservation

Hall Community Services Group (HCSG)
Established in January 2007, the Hall Community Services Group aims to serve the local community especially those underprivileged children and family in Hung Hom Area. In the past, they have rendered voluntary services like paying home visit to the aged, raise fund for charitable organizations, provide tutoring services for the new immigrant children etc.
Benefits of the Programme include:
- Have a deeper understanding of local community through outreach activities and projects
- Enrich one’s experience and ability in leadership and teamwork
- Extend our love and care to those people in need
- Engage oneself in meaningful voluntary work to serve the community
PolyU Hall Choir
Established in 2002, PolyU Hall Choir aims at providing a platform for residents of the Student Halls to enjoy music and share amusement together. Students who are interested in pop song singing are welcome to join. The first performance was staged with great appreciation at the Inauguration Ceremony of the Student Halls of Residence in January 2003. Since then, the Hall Choir is always invited to perform at various functions held within and outside the campus. The Hall Choir has achieved to enter the Final of 19th CASH Song Writer Quest 2007 with its self-written song which was well acclaimed by professionals.
Benefits of the programme include:
- Enjoy the chance of interacting with other music-lovers living in neighborhood
- Enhance singing technique and get professional musical training
- Enrich performing experiences by participating in various kind of performances
- Express one’s musical talent with great teamwork required

Putonghua Learning Community
The Putonghua Learning Community was initiated by a group of Chinese mainland students in 2008. It aims at improving the Putonghua skills of the Hong Kong and overseas students and help them better understand Chinese culture and traditions, through a series of Putonghua learning activities. Communication and interaction among all the students are also encouraged.
Benefits of the programme include:
- Learn Putonghua in an informal way through interesting activities
- Enhance one’s spoken Putonghua skill through interaction with native speakers
- Gain understanding in the Chinese culture
- Enjoy the chance of making friends with students outside your usual peer group
Community on Reading & Writing
In the year 2010, the original Hall Editorial Committee was reorganized as Hall Living and Learning Community on Reading & Writing which has a large scope of activities. The new community will provide our hall residents with more chances to participate.
The objectives of LLC on R&W are:
- to create a platform for hall residents for exchange ideas on Reading & Writing;
- to share with one another the knowledge and skills on Reading & Writing;
- to sharpen critical minds and broaden visions of hall residents;
