Background

To understand the fauna of PolyU, Campus Sustainability Office has engaged a consultant, Outdoor Wildlife Learning Hong Kong (OWLHK) to conduct a 6-month ecological survey on campus from January to June 2017. Altogether, six monthly half-day surveys were carried out during the survey period in either the early morning or late afternoon, covering both dry and wet seasons.

All ecological surveys were conducted along transects which passed through different microhabitats on campus. Encountered fauna species were identified and recorded with the help of a pair of binoculars and digital-lens reflex camera with telephoto lens.

Result

A total of 33 fauna species were recorded during the whole course of the ecological survey. They included 22 birds, 10 butterflies, and 1 mammal species.
