Senna siamea, also called Kassod Tree, is a tall and evergreen ornamental tree that can attain a height of 15m. Flowers appear from October to November and fruits are produced from December to January. It can withstand strong wind and grow well in exposed areas. It is a fast-growing tree and is widely planted for ornamental and shade purposes.
Kassod Tree bears a large crown of glossy foliage with pinnate-divided compound leaves. It was said that its Chinese name ‘鐵刀木’ (iron knife wood) is named because its wood is as hard as a knife, and even could not be hacked by an iron knife easily.
