Guidelines on Display of Information on Campus Digital Display System (CDDS)


A)       Introduction

Ÿ  The purpose of the CDDS, apart from dissemination of information relevant to departments / faculties /schools of PolyU, is to keep, as appropriate, staff, students and/or visitors informed of events so as to encourage their involvement.

Ÿ  The system consists of  Control Server and Display Station ( i.e. LCD panel / Plasma panel with display computer), which are connected to the campus data network

Ÿ  The display stations are generally located inside lobbies of building on podium and/or ground floor.

 

B)       System Function

Ÿ  The display stations can be programmed and scheduled in such a way to display materials/information in different formats.

Ÿ  The display stations at different locations can be programmed to display different information.

Ÿ  The operating hours of the CDDS is from 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. daily year round.

The display screen is divided into different portions and defined as Zone A, B and C.

Zone A is the major display area as defined for displaying the information/video.

Zone B is defined for displaying real-time weather information from the Hong Kong Observatory.

Zone C is defined for displaying scrolling text information

The display screen is divided into different portions and defined as Zone A, B, C and D.

Zones A & B are the major display areas as defined for displaying the information/video.

Zone C is defined for displaying real-time weather information from the Hong Kong Observatory.

Zone D is defined for displaying scrolling text information

 

D)       File Format and Support

           The system supports different format of display material as set out below:

a)    Text -

Any combination of Chinese (Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese), English characters, Numeric, Punctuation and Symbols.

b)    Graphic Image -

The formats of BMP, GIF, JPG and TIFF

c)    Video Image -

The formats of MPEG 1, MPEG 2, MPEG 4, DIVX, AVI, and WMV

d)    Flash Animation -

The formats of GIF and SWF

e)    HTML web page

f)     Microsoft Power Point Slide Show

For better utilization of the CDDS, the duration of the display material should be no longer than 3 minutes. If, for some reason, a longer duration is absolutely necessary, it is strongly recommended that the display material is split into different parts or episodes.

Notes

  1. To ensure maximum benefits for PolyU and its stakeholders, the following priority has been worked out :

1st priority - CPA and FMO to disseminate PolyU-wide information

2nd priority - other PolyU faculties/departments/offices/centres/units and PolyU subsidiaries

            3rd priority - other organizations (only for information relevant to PolyU staff and            students)

2.    The material to be posted on the CDDS must not be for commercial purposes and contains no violence or disturbing scene/information;

3.    The applicant shall be responsible for  obtaining all necessary licences and/or  authorization to enable its rightful display on the CDDS and the applicant is solely liable   for all royalties, fees, etc. as may be necessary, e.g. to pay royalties to relevant music licensing bodies in relation to the music content in the Licensed Material;

4.    FMO reserves the right not to accept any request for posting information on the Campus Digital Display System.

5.    The party making the request can fill in their preferred time slot and location, but the ultimate decision must rest with FMO.

6.    The material displayed on CDDS will be deleted and permanently removed from the system after the period of display.
