Wastewater Treatment Management

The University has been granted a licence on discharge under the Water Pollution Control Ordinance by Environmental Protection Department (EPD). On behalf of the University, FMO is designated to take care of the wastewater treatment facilities on campus and their maintenance with a view to ensuring the discharges are in full compliance with the discharge limitations as stipulated in the above licence.

As per the advice given by the specialist consultant on wastewater treatment who was commissioned to carry out a campus-wide survey, several wastewater treatment facilities/systems including coagulation/flocculation wastewater treatment plant; dissolved air floating plant; ion exchange system; chemical precipitation system; pH adjustment system and others have been installed at various strategic locations on campus. A specialist contractor has been employed to carry out maintenance services of the facilities/systems.

On a routine basis, FMO will carry out monthly monitoring check at all discharge points of the as-built facilities/systems in order to ensure the discharges could follow closely to the licensing requirements. Testing results will also be submitted to EPD on a quarterly basis for their information.
