Health, Safety & Environmental Policy
General Statement of the Policy

1.

It is the policy of the Facilities Management Office (FMO) to ensure as far as reasonably practicable the health and safety of all FMO staff and to monitor contractors appointed by the FMO to comply with all relevant statutory requirements and in-house safety regulations.

2.

The FMO expects full co-operation and participation in all measures from all FMO staff and all contractors appointed by the FMO to ensure efficient and safe operation. It is the responsibility of all FMO staff and all contractors appointed by the FMO:-

 

(a)

to be actively involved in implementing the University's Health & Safety Policy and Environmental Policy and the departmental Health and Safety Policy;

 

(b)

to take reasonable care at work for the health and safety of himself / herself and of all other persons who may be affected by his / her acts or omissions ;

 

(c)

not to interfere with or misuse, intentionally or recklessly, anything provided in the interests of health and safety; and

 

(d)

to duly report problems relating to health and safety matters

3.

The specific Health and Safety aims of the FMO are to:-

 

(a)

provide and maintain a healthy and safe environment for students, staff and visitors of the University;

 

(b)

comply with all occupational health and safety measures required by law;

 

(c)

ensure healthy and safe working practices are always maintained;

 

(d)

promote the interest in, and enthusiasm for, occupational and construction health & safety; and

 

(e)

provide and arrange effective occupational health and safety education and training to FMO staff.

4.

This Departmental Health, Safety & Environmental Policy should be read in conjunction with the University's Health & Safety Policy and Environmental Policy.
