The “Read & Red: Pillars of PolyU” talk series is an initiative of the Faculty of Humanities to promote a reading culture. It aims to arouse students’ interests in reading books that are within or outside their professional disciplines. Red in the title refers to both the red brick buildings of PolyU and the homophonous past tense of read. We want to emphasize that reading involves more than eye movements. Critical thinking after the book is read is as much of the reading processing as the actual visual activity. Putting the emphasis on “THINKING is part of the reading process”, the series brings in speaker/author of books in different areas to stimulate thinking and discussions.
