The Read & Red: Pillars of PolyU Lecture Series is an initiative of the Faculty of Humanities to promote a reading culture. It aims to arouse students’ interest in reading books that fall within or outside their professional disciplines. ‘Red’ in the title refers to both the red brick buildings of PolyU and the homophonous past tense of ‘read’. We want to emphasize that reading involves more than eye movements. Critical thinking both during and after a book is read is as much a part of the reading processing as the actual physical activity. Putting the emphasis on “THINKING is part of the reading process”, the Lecture Series invites speakers/authors of books in different fields and disciplines to stimulate thinking and discussions.
