Gender Perspectives and the Translation of Feminist Novels

Abstract
The lecture will introduce how gender might become a factor influencing the translation of feminist novels. In the lecture, the speaker will use the Chinese translations of Doris Lessing’s Free Women as an example to demonstrate that the translator’s gender position can be a major variable in the translation of the feminist fiction.

 

About the speaker

Kacey LIU Jianwen is currently Assistant Professor in the Department of English Language and Literature, Hong Kong Shue Yan University. She received her Ph.D. degree in Gender Studies/Translation Studies in 2010 from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Her research interests include gender-based translation studies, literary translation, and gender studies.
