Humanities Scholarship
(with effect from 2012-13 academic year for Year 1 Non-JEE students)

To enhance internationalization within the Faculty of Humanities (FH), scholarships are awarded to Year 1 non-local (non-JEE) students admitted to our undergraduate programmes under the following regulations and administrative procedures:

A)   Regulations

  1. The scholarship shall be known as the “Humanities Scholarship (人文學科獎學金)”.

  2. The Humanities Scholarship will be awarded to a limited number of eligible Year 1 non-local (non-JEE) full-time undergraduate students successfully admitted to:

    • BA (Hons) in Chinese and Bilingual Studies (programme code: JA3387)
    • BA (Hons) in English Studies for the Professions (programme code: JA3399)
    • Broad Discipline of Language, Culture and Communication (programme code: JS3480)

  3. The Scholarship, to be considered based on students’ academic merit and interview performance at the time of admission, will be granted to about 10 qualified students in the form of waiving part of the tuition fee for the full normative study period, on a first-come-first-served basis.

  4. The Scholarship will be granted on a yearly basis. Renewal of scholarship is subject to satisfactory academic performance, i.e. attaining a yearly GPA of 3.2 or above at the end of Semester Two. FH has the right to terminate the scholarship if the student’s academic performance is not satisfactory. Exceptional cases will be considered on a case-by-case basis subject to the recommendations of the Head of Department concerned and Faculty Dean’s approval.

  5. Year 1 non-local (non-JEE) students successfully admitted to BA (Hons) in Chinese and Bilingual Studies, BA (Hons) in English Studies for the Professions or Broad Discipline of Language, Culture and Communication are eligible for the Humanities scholarship. Students who have been awarded full “University Academic/Non-academic Scholarship” will not be eligible for this Scholarship.

B)   Administrative Procedure

The administration of all scholarship matters, including the review of students’ eligibility for continuation of scholarship disbursement, is under the purview of the Student Affairs Office (SAO) in consultation with the Office of the Faculty of Humanities.
