Student Development Talk Brings New Insights to Students

Two successful persons, two different stories ˇX all these made an inspiring and stimulating Student Development Talk organised in end of January by the department for its undergraduate students.

For most of the students, they are always keen to know what makes a person successful and they were able to get some clues from what is mentioned by the first speaker, Mr Noble Coker, Vice President, Park Operations and Operations Development of Hong Kong Disneyland Resort. ˇ§In the long-term, what helps you succeed is the breadth of things that you know.ˇ¨ Through this message, Mr Coker encouraged students to learn to diversify their interests in school as the broad background or broad interest would help them to relate to different people in future which would definitely be beneficial to their career.

The second speaker took the students to a different perspective by sharing how his mindset has shifted from business-oriented to community service-oriented after his 30 years of working experience. Dr Mono Chan, an alumnus from ENGLˇ¦s MA in English for the Professions programme, is a management generalist and has led many successful corporate developments in Hong Kong and China markets. He expressed students should have a good understanding about a job or a volunteer work as this would help them to see how they can contribute to the society and also relate the meaning in doing it.
