Faculty  Lecture on "The Recent & Future Development of Astronautical Propulsion Technology", 12 January 2006
Professor Cai Guo Biao, Deputy Director, School of Astronautics, Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, was invited to present the recent and future development of astronautical propulsion technology with a view to promoting aerospace science and technology in PolyU.


Faculty  Seminar on "Innovation through Dominant Design and Infotronics Technologies : An Example of Industry/Universtiy Cooperative Research and Education", 13 December 2005
Professor Jay Lee, Ohio Eminent Scholar and L.W. Scott Alter Chair Professor at the University of Cincinnati, introduced the concept and strategies for product and business innovation based on Dominant Design approach and infotronics-based technologies.  Examples were given on the changing business models in global business as well as product and service strategies.  In addition, an Industry/University Cooperative Research Center Model as well as its operations in an academic environment was discussed.  Finally, the implication to the transformation of Hong Kong¡¦s  academic institutions was addressed.


Faculty Seminar on Learning & Teaching focusing on "Alignment between student assessment and intended learning outcomes", 27 February 2004
This is the first Faculty Seminar on Learning & Teaching with focus on "alignment between student assessment and intended learning outcomes". The following speakers were invited:

(1) Prof Jun Ni, Professor of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Michigan

Prof Ni's presentation is on the review of the curriculum reform process that has been ongoing in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Michigan since 1992.

(2)Mr. S Frankland, Associate Head of the Department of Industrial & Systems Engineering of the PolyU

Mr Frankland's presentation is on a PolyU's teaching & learning development project titled ¡§Enhancing Teaching and Learning through Assessment".



Faculty Research Forum on ¡§University Research Assessment in United Kingdom and The Process of Research Team Building", 26 February 2004
This Faculty Forum is organized as a follow up to one of the action plans laid down in the Faculty Business Plan for 2003/04. Professor Ashok Kochhar, Head of the School of Engineering and Applied Science, and Professor of Manufacturing Systems and Management at Aston University, was invited to give a presentation outlining the process of assessing the quality of research in British Universities and also the process of research team building in the School of Engineering and Applied Science at Aston University.

VP(AD), Dean(ENG), Heads and selected staff of FENG Departmetns had a fruitful discussion on the Future of Engineering Education in Hong Kong with a view to influencing future education strategy in the Faculty.
