Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering
Industrial and Systems Engineering is a dynamic discipline that enables people to understand and solve complex technical, economic and social problems from a systems perspective. Such skills are needed for designing and managing systems -- from product launching, information and logistics flows, human resource deployment, electronic business applications, engineering and quality evaluation to project costing and many other operational activities.
The Department is the longest established of its kind in Hong Kong. It offers unique interdisciplinary and collaborative academic programmes that cut across the boundaries of engineering and business. The programmes are constantly updated and have a strong application orientation. They place emphasis on student and interest-based learning. In the final year, students can specialise in areas such as product engineering, logistics engineering, enterprise management and information technology, with a broad range of supporting electives from which to choose.
After graduation, a wide choice of careers is available in the service industries, manufacturing industries and public utilities. Graduates are able to find immediate employment in both the private and public sectors in Hong Kong.
