Dr Royce Yuen is Outstanding PolyU Alumnus

Dr Royce Yuen, who graduated with a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) degree in the year 2000, was one of six individuals presented the Outstanding PolyU Alumni Award on 16 April 2009.

The outstanding alumni award, jointly administered by PolyU and the Federation of PolyU Alumni Associations, honours graduates for their professional attainments, their contribution to the society and to their alma mater.

Faculty Students Sweep First Two Places in PolyU Pre-Challenge 2008/09

Two teams of Faculty students swept up the first two places in PolyU Pre-Challenge 2008/09 on 16 April 2009. The competition, hosted by the Student Affairs Office was co-organized by the PolyU Partnership Development Office and sponsored by IDT International Ltd.

Mr Tso Chi To, Francis and Mr Yuen Hoi Man, both from the School of Accounting and Finance and the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering, won the Diamond Award of Innovation with their EasyMusic, a music composition software and business plan.

The team that won the Diamond Award of Innovation will now move on to semi-finals of the PolyU Innovation and Entrepreneurship Student Challenge - A Global Competition in June 2009. A total of 30 university teams will compete in the semi-finals. This will include teams from Stanford University and Princeton University.

Ms Fung Hiu Ka, Olivia (from the School of Accounting and Finance), Ms Wong Ching, Cally (from the Department of Logistics and Maritime Studies), Mr Mak Ka Leung, Bryan and Ms Leung Yuk Ling, Elaine (from the Department of Management and Marketing) formed the team that took the Platinum Award in relation to a device that immobilizes the vehicle if a driver's blood alcohol concentration level exceeds the legal limit.

Faculty Students Shine at Leo Ku Eye Fever PolyU Charity Concert

Three Faculty students performed at the Leo Ku Eye Fever PolyU Charity Concert on 25 April 2009 to raise fund for the University.

The three, Mr Ken Sin (from the School of Accounting and Finance), Mr Hensel Ip (from the Department of Logistics and Maritime Studies) and Mr Thomas Ip (from the Department of Management and Marketing) were part of a quartet who together with PolyU President Professor Timothy W. Tong played Tim Tong No. 5 composed by Professor Tong.

Dr CEO Talk

The "Dr CEO Talk" was meant to bring industry leaders and senior executive to talk to final year Faculty of Business undergraduates about careers in their organizations.

The event was held on 23 April 2009. The speakers were Dr Ferrick Chu, Head of Policy and Research of the Equal Opportunities Commission, Mr Edwin Lee, Founder and CEO of Hong Kong Business Intermediary Co Ltd, and Ms Gladys Wong, General Manager of Ogilvy and Mather Advertising Hong Kong.

The talk was organized by the PolyU Faculty of Business (FB), Doctor of Business Administration Alumni Association (DBAAA) and Cougars Group (HK) Ltd.

Curtin University of Technology Students Visit PolyU

A group of over 10 students from the Curtin University of Technology in Australia came to the Faculty as part of their visit to the PolyU on 20 April 2009. They received a warm welcome from the Graduate School of Business. Professor Howard Davies, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Business delivered a talk entitled, "Hong Kong's Economy: Its Past, Present and Future".
