How to login WebCT server for e-Learning services?
(a)
Use your web browser (Netscape or Internet Explorer) to access the
WebCT 4.1 CE server via http://webct.polyu.edu.hk
(b)
Click the hyperlink:

At the WebCT ID: type in your NetID
At the Password : type
in your NetPassword

I am unable to login WebCT server, what should I do?
Please
follow the steps listed below to solve the problem:
(a)
For new PolyU students, you will need to activate your NetID before
you could login the WebCT server. Activation can be done online
at : http://www.polyu.edu.hk/its/netid_mgt/stud_netid
The account will be effective for login WebCT server after one
working day.
(b)
Make sure you have select the WebCT 4.1 CE server (for academic
year 2009/10) from the http://webct.polyu.edu.hk
(c)
After you click the hyperlink:
Log
in to myWebCT
make sure you input the correct WebCT ID and Password. Please
visit the webpage here
for details informations about NetID and Netpassword. Normally
the last character of your WebCT ID is in lower case letter.
(i) If you had changed your Password before you login WebCT, please
note that the new Password will be effective after one working
day. Both WebCT ID and Password are case sensitive, please follow
the order of the new password chosen by you.
(ii) If you do not have a Student ID Number issued by PolyU then
you must contact your lecturer for permission to use a guest created
for the WebCT course.

MyWebCT
course 
1)
I have successfully login WebCT server but several registered
subjects
are not displayed on screen of myWebCT, what should I do?
All
students will have their user accounts on respective WebCT course
provided that they have officially registered for those subjects
and their lecturers are using WebCT for teaching.
If you have any problems regarding your student account, please
check your subject registration record at:
http://www.polyu.edu.hk/student
Students who have not yet completed the official registration procedures
may ask for permission from their lecturers to use the guest accounts
for logging into the WebCT course for e-Learning activities. The
WebCT ID and Password of guest accounts are kept by respective subject
lecturers or departmental General Office.

What should I do if the error message "Page not found" or
"File
not found" is displayed on screen when I am accessing the
content of a WebCT course?
You
should inform the corresponding subject lecturer to fix the "broken
links".

3)
Can I change my Password on WebCT server?
You
may change your Password at:
https://www29.polyu.edu.hk/itnetid_manage/forget/forget_netid.jsp
You need to use your original NetID and NetPassword to login this
page before making changes. The new NetPassword will be effective
after one working day.
If
you even forget your original Netpassword, please call ITS Helpdesk
2766-5900 for assistance.
Please note that WebCT NetPassword is automatically synchronized
with password for other IT services such as campus email, dialup
services and Student Portal etc.

How to find the "WebCT Course ID" before I report a problem
about
a WebCT course?
A
WebCT Course ID is an important information when you make enquiry.
After you login to myWebCT, the Course ID is listed indside the
bracket before the title of each course


5)
I have already dropped a subject, however, the corresponding WebCT
course
still appear on myWebCT page. How can I remove the WebCT course?
There
is a "Remove Course" function available. The "Remove
Course" link is located on the myWebCT page at the bottom of
the course list and above the Bookmarks. Click the link to enter
the page of "Remove Course". Select the checkbox of course(s)
that you have already dropped then click [Go] button.

How to download the attachment of an email on WebCT server
to
my PC?
While
the email is displayed on screen, you may click the attachment icon
to select the file you wish to download and then click the download
button.

2)
Can I use email function of WebCT server for sending email to
people
not
in
my class?
No,
you can only send email to the subject lecturer(s), teaching assistant
and your classmates. Please use Campus Email of PolyU for sending
to other people.

How to logout from WebCT server?
It
is critical that you logout & close all browser windows after
using WebCT. Otherwise, someone might be able to access your account.
To logout, you can click the "logout"
link at the top right corner of the myWebCT page or Homepage of
a course.

Which Internet browser should I use for WebCT e-Learning services?
Do I
need to install any software or plug-in?
It
is recommended that you use Internet Explorer 5.5 (SP2) and 6.0
or Netscape 6.2.x, 7.0 and 7.1

please note that the Internet browser (Internet Explorer or Netscape
Communicator) you use with WebCT is required to "enable Java"
and "set the cache to reload every time", you may find the
configuration instructions from the above link. If you are using
a Chinese version browser, you may download the instruction here
that with Chinese terms.
Files

1)
What is the file naming convention use in WebCT?
It
is recommended that the filename used in WebCT has to be in web
standards. Use letters ([a..z][A..Z]), numbers ([0..9]). No space
should be contained in the file name, instead of space please use
underscore "_" eg. Module_1.doc
For the length of the filenames, it is a good practice to keep it
less than 64 characters which is more readable in the File Manager
and the file list boxes.
