Title of project: 大學生精神及情緒健康研究計劃
Principal investigator: Dr. Suzanne So, Assistant Professor, Psychology
Aims of project: To investigate the prevalence and psychological correlates of depression, anxiety, and psychotic-proneness among university students in Hong Kong
Target sample: 3000 full-time undergraduate students across HK
Study design: Phase 1 (entire sample): repeated measures (online survey) at baseline, 12 months and 18 months; Phase 2 (selected participants): one-off interview and testing in the laboratory
Participation: voluntary and will be remunerated in cash
Data handling: confidential; only research team members will have access to survey data, which will be kept separately from identifiable information
Risk: There is no known risk in completing the survey, which consists of standard questionnaires on psychiatric symptoms, cognitive styles, emotions and functioning.
Feedback: All participants will be given mental wellness education materials upon completion of the baseline survey. We will provide brief feedback on the participants' individual levels of anxiety and depression (measured by GAD-7 and PHQ-9) for their own reference. It will be stated clearly that these screening tools do not replace professional judgement, and participants who report a moderate or severe level of anxiety or depression will be advised to consult mental health professionals for comprehensive assessment.
Ethics: This project has been approved by the CUHK Survey and Behavioural Research Ethics Committee
