INTRODUCTION

In the face of SARS in 2003, the University had taken the lead and set up a special Task Force to deal with issues related to the infection. Despite of the removal of SARS, the Task Force has stayed on alert and has taken protective measures to prevent its return.

This year, the outbreak of Influenza A (H1N1), previously known as Swine Flu, in Mexico and North America and the appearance of a confirmed case in Hong Kong have posed threats to many communities and activities. Hence the Task Force of the University has been reactivated with a specific aim to handle the Influenza A threat at the University.

The Task Force will continue to take up its role of monitoring and assessing the impact caused by the infection, providing up to date information to staff and students, as well as coordinating internal efforts with external parties.

This website has been set up to help staff and students keep abreast of the development of the infection and to be informed of the arrangements made by the University in cases of emergency.

Our continuous success requires your support and co-operation. The Task Force wishes to remind all PolyU members, staff and students, to remain vigilant, maintain good personal hygiene, and continue to keep our campus clean.
