CAMPUS ARRANGEMENT

 

1) Re-activation of Task Force on the Management of Influenza A (H1N1)

Prof. Thomas K.S. Wong, Vice-President (Management) has been appointed as the Chairman of the Task Force on 30 April 2009.

The Task Force convened its first meeting on 3 May 2009 to address various issues of the pandemic and preventive measures.

2) Building a Central Stock of Surgical Masks

Finance Office has ordered and maintained a central stock of surgical masks at a level to meet 2 months consumption on campus.

Each department has designated staff for order and delivery arrangement with the central contactors. Shall there be a need for everyone on campus to put on masks, the contractors will make weekly delivery.

A computer database is maintained by ITS to keep track of distribution to staff and students whenever a "mask for everyone" measure is enforced.

Health, Safety and Environment Office has coordinated the request for special personal protective equipments.

3) Hygienic Measures on Campus

The hygienic measures on campus have been reviewed on 17 May 2010 in light of the Government's decision to lower to "Alert" response level. Other than the daily routines for keeping a clean and hygienic work environment, FMO has revised the related measures on campus, including

  • Regular cleaning of air filters (of fan-coil units) and air grilles in air conditioning systems (currently based on a 3-month cycle ).
  • Regular cleaning/replacement of air filters (of air-handling units) in air-conditioning systems ( pre-filters cleaned once every month, disposible filters replaced once every 4 to 6 months - depending on actual condition, and annual cleaning of air-handling units ).
  • Regular cleaning of air ducts (once every 5~7 years).
  • Regular cleaning of air curtains (depending on location, 1 to 2 times a month to 1 to 2 times a quarter).
  • Regular disinfectant cleaning of lift buttons (4 times a day).
  • Regular disinfectant cleaning of microphones provided in classrooms (4 times a day).
  • Regular disinfectant cleaning of public door handles and railings (once a day).
  • Regular topping up of water in air traps of floor drains inside toilets (once a day).
  • Maintenance of full fresh air supply to buildings including classrooms (to revert to the normal arrangement, i.e. amount of fresh air supply based on CO2 concentration, for saving energy).
  • Provision of alcohol gel dispensers at the main entrance lobbies of buildings.
  • Provision of sterilized carpets at the main entrances to buildings.



4) Health Education and Promotion


University Health Service has equipped with medications, in particular for Influenza.

Squina International Centre for Infection Control of Faculty of Health and Social Science has prepared powerpoint presentation and will run open workshops on measures against swine flu. Check the website for details.

Special training sessions for cleaning staff, contractors and clinical staff will be arranged whenever necessary.

5) Contingency Planning

Drill exercise for some critical departments is to be scheduled.

The Task Force will convene meeting as and when required. It will monitor and update contingency plan of the University.
