The University campus is strategically located in Hung Hom, Kowloon, on a 9.34-hectare site adjacent to the Cross Harbour Tunnel. In coping with the Institution's growth and development, a number of works were carried out and plans drawn up in the year to ensure that the University campus provides a congenial environment for staff and students.

Phase VI Development

At the heart of the campus, an "intelligent" 18-storey tower block with a two-storey low rise extension will become a new focal point.

This UGC-funded project is scheduled to be completed in two phases in September and December 2000. The new premises will ease the present space shortage, providing a total net floor area of 17,000m2 for academic, administrative and communal use.

Jockey Club Auditorium

With a total number of 1,090 seats, this new facility is set to enhance the quality of student life by providing a venue for cultural activities, international conferences and exchange activities, exhibitions and other functions.

The Auditorium is equipped with high quality seatings, lighting and audio-visual systems and other facilities for use by internal and external hirers.

This building is named after the Hong Kong Jockey Club which has generously donated a sum of $66.26m.

Student Hostel

The student hostels will be located in the Hunghom Bay Reclamation area within 15 minutes’ walking distance from the University.

Piling works for the hostels commenced in early August 1999. Upon completion of the project by the first quarter of 2002, a total of 3,004 places will be available to PolyU students.

Professional Complex

This fully self-financed project is initiated by the University Management to support the development of business and industry in Hong Kong and to meet the growing demand for lifelong learning in the community.

Upon completion by early 2002, the new premises will provide nearly 6,700m2 of net floor area to house the University's Institute for Enterprise and the School of Professional Education and Executive Development.
