The University campus is strategically located in Hung Hom, Kowloon, on a 9.34-hectare site adjacent to the Cross Harbour Tunnel. In coping with the Institution's growth and development, a number of works were carried out and plans drawn up in the year to ensure that the University campus provides a congenial environment for staff and students.

New developments

With the support from the Government, the Phase Eight Development is proceeding actively. Construction is scheduled to commence in March 2009 and the completion date is anticipated to be in the first quarter of 2012. Upon completion, the development will provide accommodation of approximately 26,000 square metres net floor area for general teaching and research facilities, staff offices, conference facilities, cafeteria and communal space for implementation of the new "3+3+4" academic system and other academic development.

Planning works for the Innovation Tower, a new development located at the north-eastern side of the campus, is also under way. Upon completion, it will provide accommodation of approximately 15,000 square metres net floor area, of which 3,000 square metres is self-financed space. The building is scheduled for completion in the second quarter of 2012.

Another capital project currently in progress is the "Redevelopment of Pak Sui Yuen" in Tsimshatsui East. Foundation works were completed in June 2008 while superstructure works are already in progress. Apart from the teaching hotel with around 280 guest rooms, the premises will house conference facilities, teaching and research facilities, offices and staff quarters. The entire project is scheduled for completion in 2010.


A growing community for learning


Following the completion of the first campus in Hung Hom Bay for the Hong Kong Community College in June 2007, construction of the second campus located in West Kowloon was completed according to schedule in late March 2008, and students and staff have been gradually moving into the building. These new campuses will provide comprehensive teaching and amenity facilities and infrastructure, including lecture theatres, classrooms, a library, a computer centre, multi-purpose rooms and halls, sky gardens, a cafeteria and communal areas, for sub-degree students.

The Government has indicated its support for Student Hostel Phase 3 Development. Subject to the Government's approval of funding and successful acquisition of land, the Student Hostel Phase 3 is proposed to be built at the junction of Chatham Road North, Fat Kwong Street and is scheduled for completion in the second quarter of 2012. Upon completion it will provide accommodation of 1,650 hostel places, of approximately 32,000 square metres gross floor area required by the new "3+3+4" academic system and other academic development.
