Other Management Actions
In addition, the following actions will be pursued by the SMC:
1. To continue to explore and study the establishment of a Community College and the extension of the usual duration of degree programmes from three to four years.
2. To further support Strategic Objective 1, we will:
  2.1 continue the recruitment of students from the Chinese mainland and actively seek external funding support;
  2.2 promote students' involvement in community affairs and activities through voluntary or other forms of services;
  2.3 further enhance interaction between students and academic staff; and

further enhance students' proficiency in the applications of information technology.
3. To further support Strategic Objective 2, we will:
  3.1 modify the credit-based and admission systems to allow more flexibility in curriculum design and student choice;
  3.2 reduce the barriers between different levels of programmes; and
  3.3 give preference to applicants with industrial/professional experience and qualifications when recruiting, other qualifications being equal.
4. To further support Strategic Objective 4, we will:
  4.1 further improve staff quality by replacing the current staff appraisal system with a simpler annual Development and Performance Review exercise;

provide a conducive, supportive, safe and healthy environment for teaching, learning and research by enforcing better cleaning and maintenance of the campus;

  4.3 ensure the compatibility of IT systems among departments and operating units; and
  4.4 ensure state-of-the-art infrastructure support and facilities, e.g., accessibility, library, IT support, etc.
