Special Features
- All-round development of students: We strive to ensure our students possess a global outlook, sound general and professional knowledge, and effective communication skills. We offer an extensive range of general education subjects for full-time students and organise cultural activities to promote cultural appreciation among students. To give due emphasis to the non-academic performance of applicants, students who excel in such areas as sports, music, social services or leadership can be admitted through the "Non-academic Achievements Self-recommendation Scheme" and the "Outstanding Sportsmen Recommendation Scheme". PolyU also takes part in the "JUPAS Sub-system for School Principal's Nominations".
- Language enhancement: To promote the culture of biliteracy and trilingualism, we adopt English as the formal medium of instruction except for Chinese-related subjects. We have also prescribed language requirements for students enrolled on our full-time Government-funded Bachelor's degree and Higher Diploma programmes. These students will also be required to take internal language proficiency tests before graduation.
- Development of Preferred Graduates: With the collaboration of more than 1,200 companies and organizations under the 'Preferred Graduate' Development Programme, we arrange summer placements every year for students to work in Hong Kong, the mainland or overseas. This is one of the largest work-integrated learning programmes among universities in Hong Kong. More than 9,300 students have been successfully placed through this programme in the past few years. Students can also study summer courses on Putonghua and General Education in renowned mainland universities. A large-scale intensive training programme, namely 'Leadership and Competence for Success', is in place to enhance students' leadership skills and prepare them for future challenges.
