Dr Lam Tai-fai and Dr Lawrence Li Kwok-chang were appointed PolyU Council Chairman and Deputy Chairman respectively from 1 January 2019 for a period of three years.

Dr Lam Tai-fai has been the Deputy Chairman of the PolyU Council since January 2016. He has a long association with PolyU, and has been actively supporting the development of his alma mater. A former Legislative Council member, Dr Lam serves in a number of public offices and is dedicated to the development of industry, innovation and technology, as well as education in Hong Kong.

Dr Lawrence Li Kwok-chang has been a member of the PolyU Council since April 2010 and the Treasurer of the University since April 2015. A specialist in Ear, Nose and Throat Surgery, he has been contributing to the community through serving on various government committees and professional bodies.

President Prof. Timothy W. Tong will be retiring at the end of 2018 after a decade of service to PolyU. While the University is undergoing a global search for the next President, Prof. Philip C.H. Chan, Deputy President and Provost, will serve as Interim President with effect from 1 January 2019 until the new President is in post.  

The University Council thanked Prof. Tong for his dedicated service and contributions over the past ten years.
