Visually impaired children may not have a clue about what the world looks like. But how wonderful it would be if someone can help them “see” their own school?

This summer, PolyU students participated in a meaningful community project named “Touching is Touching”. They applied their knowledge and skills in creating a 3D campus model of the Ebenezer School & Home for the Visually Impaired (the School).

In order to collect the School’s 3D spatial data, students from the Department of Land Surveying and Geo-informatics conducted on-site surveying and captured aerial shots of the School campus. They then designed and printed the 3D campus model utilising the facilities of PolyU’s Laboratory for Smart City and Spatial Big Data Analytics and University Research Facility in 3D Printing respectively. Through touching the 3D campus model, the visually impaired students can finally “see” their school. Video (Chinese version only)>>

Another group of students from the Department of Building and Real Estate as well as the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering conducted refurbishment works for the School’s facilities. They also built a swing under the pavilion, adding fun to the students’ school life.
