Among 17 District Champion teams from tertiary institutions around the world, a team of PolyU students majoring in mechanical engineering has won the first runner-up at the 2016 American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Student Design Competition in the US with a theme “Manufacturing the future”.

Under the supervision of Ir Dr Curtis Ng at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, students Li Man-kit, Siu Siu-wai and Tsang Chee-fung have designed a compact battery-powered full automation manufacturing system. Contestants had to build projectile from a standard sheet of paper and competed with others by propelling the projectiles at a maximum distance.
