Recently, PolyU started offering Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) through the establishment of the HKPolyUx platform as an initiative to facilitate online learning. PolyU’s MOOCs aim to create enriching learning experiences in a global context, with the use of novel teaching approaches, interactive videos and live broadcasts.

Two MOOCs were launched on 25 August. The first one titled “Knowledge Management and Big Data in Business” received overwhelming response with some 22,000 students, breaking the Hong Kong record of MOOC enrollment. This 6-week course will examine the role of knowledge management, the rapid and massive accumulation of data in the cloud, the transition from data to information and knowledge, Big Data projects, learning analytics and how to enact innovations with cloud services and more.

Also launched on 25 August with a high enrollment approaching 18,000 students is the MOOC on “Human Anatomy”. This 8-week course will explore the structure of the human body through a real-life case scenario of stroke, covering knowledge on body systems and important organs, anatomical orientation and skeletal system, muscular system, nervous system and special sense, cardiovascular and pulmonary systems.

For those who wish to succeed at job interviews, a MOOC on “English@Work in Asia” comprising Part One and Part Two will be offered before the end of 2015. Apart from job application strategies, creative CVs and letter templates, this course will also cover the construction of a compelling online presence, and how to stand out and ace in job interviews.
